Two shot at New York ice rink

Two men have received urgent medical treatment at a New York hospital after being shot while skating at the popular Bryant Park Ice Rink in Manhattan
A shooting at a popular ice rink in Manhattan, New York has left two men hospitalised with severe injuries after being gunned down in front of more than 50 witnesses.

The incident took place at 11pm on Saturday (November 9) at Bryant Park Ice Rink, Manhattan’s only free skating venue and a popular tourist attraction in the run up to Christmas.

An unidentified gunman, described by eyewitnesses as a black male with dreadlocks, skated up to the victims and fired three shots, striking one man in the leg and the other in the back.

According to reports, the packed ice rink descended into pandemonium when the shots were fired, with dozens of skaters and diners attempting to flee.

"People just fell on the floor because they heard a gunshot and they had ice skating skates on so they couldn't run," Raghuram Krishnamachar, who witnessed the attack from the park’s second-floor restaurant, told Associated Press.

"People were scared, they didn't know what was going on," he said.

Emergency services were in quick attendance, with paramedics administering urgent medical treatment immediately. The two victims were rushed to hospital soon after.

Police are currently searching for the shooter, who fled the scene.

Bryant Park Ice Rink sits at the centre of the Bank of America Winter Village. The rink stays open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
