Police believe an argument at a hotel sparked off a deadly attack on
the Las Vegas Strip that left three people dead and six injured last
week.
According to reports, shots were fired from a black Range Rover Sport
at a Maserati that was stopped at a traffic signal, causing the
Maserati to collide with a taxi which burst into flames.
The driver of the Maserati was killed and his passenger suffered
gunshot wounds. Both the driver and the passenger in the taxi were
killed and several other people were injured when six other vehicles
crashed into the pile-up.
The incident took place at around 4.30am on the morning of February
21 at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Flamingo Road, close
to some of The Strip’s most prominent hotels, including Caesars Palace
and the Bellagio.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority released a statement
reassuring the public that it was doing everything in its power to keep
visitors and residents safe.
"Recent incidents, while unfortunate, were isolated events," said spokesman Jeremy Handel in a statement.
"Las Vegas is among the safest travel destinations in the world and
utilises the most advanced technology and training to maintain a secure
environment."
The incident is the latest in a string of violent attacks in Sin City
this year. One tourist was stabbed in an elevator at The Hotel at
Mandalay Bay on Saturday (February 26) and two people were wounded in a
shooting on February 6.
