Hot air balloon flights banned after fatal crash
Egypt’s Prime Minister Hisham Qandi has ordered an investigation into Tuesday’s tragic hot air balloon crash, in which 19 passengers were killed.
In the mean time, all hot air balloon flight operations in Luxor have been suspended.
The tragic incident occurred when a hot air balloon operated by Egyptian firm Skycruise caught fire as it came in to land following a dawn flight over Luxor.
According to witnesses, the balloon shot 1,000 feet into the air before it exploded and crashed to the ground.
Two survivors, one British man and the pilot, who both jumped from the balloon as it was landing, were taken to hospital and are said to be suffering from severe burns and lacerations.
All 19 other passengers, including tourists from England, France, Hong Kong and Japan, either died at the scene or later in hospital.
